I’ve been interested in healthy eating for a while now, ever since my mom told me about amino acids when I was young. Of course, I just dabbled in it then, but over the years I have learned more and more, gathering what information I could about nutrition and trying to apply it. I have always been very curious, enjoying science. I got a Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the university, which has given me a strong understanding of human metabolism and nutrition. In the laboratory I have studied phytochemicals, natural products, free radicals, and enzyme kinetics in relation to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and infection. I have maintained an interest in nutrition over the years, especially childhood nutrition. I’ve done a lot of research on how to have a healthy baby (stimulated by the pregnancies with our own two kids) and am enjoying studying more.
Although I understand the value of science, I also recognizes what science cannot do. I have had a long interest in alternative medicine because of its efficacy in areas where traditional wisdom has failed. Unfortunately, modern science is imbalanced, placing undue focus on drugs, surgeries, and expensive treatments. I hope this blog will help reveal a more artful, genuine, and practical side of healthy living.
