Ending the Culinary Miseducation of Children
Jamie Oliver is on a mission to save America. He states:
“I wish for everyone to help create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”
Watch his “TED talk” below. It is powerful.
I am a college student from the University of Colorado at Boulder and am
interning for a really cool new company I think everyone (esp moms) would be
interested in. Our name is Zisboombah.com and basically what we are is a
company that caters to kids in this food crisis. With child obesity on the rise,
and unhealthy food habits taking over America and targeting our children, we
thought the kids needed a tool to point them in the right direction as well as
teach them about food at the same time.
Zisboombah.com is a free website that is fun, easy, and safe for kids and
families. The kids and parents register, and then they can create their own
meals through “Pick Chow”. “Pick Chow” is a system where the kids can drag
and drop what food they want to put in their meal onto their online plate. At the
same time, while each food is being dragged and dropped, there is a box that
comes up and teaches the kids about each food item. Through out the meal
making process there are dials on the side of the page that also show how much
fat, sodium, sugar, protein, carbs, and fiber they have in their meal. They must
stay in the “green” zone (as opposed to the bad red zone) in order to create a
balanced meal. When they are done creating their own meal, with foods that
THEY want to eat, they simply click send and an email is sent to their parents of
the meal that they have created along with a grocery list, recipes, and coupons.
Kids and parents absolutely love this website for the true benefit it brings to
families. It makes the parents’ life easier by not having to worry what’s for
dinner, if it’s healthy, and if the kids will eat it while at the same time gives the
nutritional education that is much needed to children. Let us know what you
think!
